Why Stucco Fails (And Why Most Repairs Miss the Real Issue)

Stucco itself is one of the most durable and weather-resistant exterior systems when installed correctly. The majority of stucco failures are not caused by the stucco — they’re caused by improper details behind it.
Common causes of stucco damage include:
Missing or improperly installed kickout flashing
Inadequate head flashing with end dams
Poor or failing caulking at windows, doors, and penetrations
Improper integration with roofing and chimney systems
Trapped moisture from incorrect repairs or shortcuts
If these details are ignored, moisture gets behind the stucco and leads to rot, mold, staining, and structural damage.
